There are many methods to choose from when it comes to hair removal as every person is different in terms of quantity and quality (thickness, color, length, hair growth cycle) of undesirable hair in specific regions of the body. You have to decide not only which method fits into your lifestyle, but also how much dedicated time you wish to devote to your hair removal routine. You must be aware of potential complications that may occur with each method.
Epilation by razoring severs off the exposed hair but leaves behind the epidermal and dermal portions of the hair follicle and their growth centers for regrowth. With an epilator you can remove hair as short as 0.5mm at home with results lasting up to 3 days to a week depending on the specific regrowth cycle of treated sites. However, some persons may experience the inevitable razor bumps, occasional painful ingrowths, and overall post-shaving irritation.
For other patients, more “permanent” methods for hair removal are available by lasering or electrolysis. Occasionally, scarring and changes in skin color may occur because of the use of selective thermal injury to the deeper portions of growth centers within the hair follicle. These advanced procedures are performed by professionals in state-regulated centers. Registered nurses in our Injectable and Device Center can offer you a consultation for laser hair removal services.
Waxing is often a preferred method for many due to its longer-lasting effect than razor shaving because it removes your hair further down the shaft. That being said, waxing is not considered to be a permanent hair removal procedure and may last for 4-6 weeks, depending again on the intrinsic regrowth rate of the treated site. For waxing to be effective, the hair length should be trimmed to about a quarter-inch so the wax has something to grip onto with the one time in-the-moment pain during removal of the waxing strip. Our skin care specialists will explain their pre-treatment requirements, precise safe and aesthetic waxing experience, and aftercare recommendations. For example, suggested ways to reduce any irritation is to avoid tight clothing in treated sites, sweating, hot water and fragrances after waxing. In order to prolong the smooth and glowing skin, our skin care specialists will recommend regular exfoliation methods until your next session.
